The LastRoom
Everything you have just read, at scale.
The large-format theatre closes the route, and its job is the reverse of the rooms before it. The Common Passage and the Disciples’ Room are read at arm’s length. This room is watched from a seat, at a scale nothing else in the building attempts.
Its position in the sequence is the whole argument for it. A visitor arrives here having walked six arches, a tree-built theatre, an emperor’s biography, a wall of symbols and a room of Gathas — carrying, by this point, enough visual vocabulary to read what they are shown. The film can therefore stop explaining and start showing.
And it is the last room before the door. What a visitor carries up the hill to the Great Stupa is whatever this room leaves them with.
